Our third day in Iceland, started with breakfast from Sandholt bakery again.
Kraig and I had been going back and forth on whether or not we would make the drive out to Black Sand Beach and Vatnajokull Glacier while we were in Iceland. The thing holding us back was time. Since we were staying in Reyjavik, it’d probably be about 14 hours in a car that day if we did this day trip. We both knew that we’d live with regret if we didn’t venture out for this advenutre, so we made the trek and it was definitely WORTH it. With the never ending hours of daylight on our side and or our remnants of youth to power us through, we embarked on our journey.
The first stop of the day was at Seljalandsfoss Waterfall. This waterfall is super cool because you can walk up and behind the waterfall.
Here is a very shaky video I took of the waterfall with my iPhone.
The next major stop for the day was Black Sand Beach. It was certainly cold here, but a beautiful sight to see. The rocks in the water reminded me of pictures and movies that I’ve seen of Cannon Beach in Oregon.
We finally made it to Vatnajokull Glacier! There are different tours offered for the glacier, but we decided to explore on our own. Perhaps we would have ventured more into the unknown with a tour guide, but based of costs and reviews on TripAdvisor, we didn’t take any tour.
I think we made it back to our apartment rental in Reykjavik around 11:30PM after a full day of sightseeing. This day was so much fun and I definitely recommend making the trip.
