In a Hurry Makeup Look #2.

Most weekday mornings are very rushed trying to make it into my office by 8AM.  This results in me slabbing on a few makeup products so I don’t look like death, but not necessarily putting a full “face” of makeup on.  Here are some products I like to throw on when I may skip the foundation, but still don’t want to look like I just rolled out of  bed before coming into the office.img_6834

I start with a moisturized and SPfed face and then apply Anastasia Dipbrow Pomade in Taupe to my brows (more details on the blog here) and Diorshow Mascara (Free sample from Sephora!) is added to my top lashes.

Next up is adding some color to my face with Laura Mercier Lotus Pink Blush.  I find myself reaching for this blush year round. It’s the most beautiful pop of pink to add to the apples of my cheeks and is long-wearing. It helps bring life to my pale face and seems to brighten everything up quite fast without having to use much product. Afterwards, I apply Topshop Glow Highlighter in Polished to the strobing parts of my face.  I finish off with MAC Cremesheen Fanfare  on my lips. I find this to be a wonderful everyday shade that’s easy to apply and feels very creamy on the lips.

Depending on my time crunch, I might apply Murad Acne Concealer Stick to any zits and Makeup Forever to any old acne scars.

It’s worth mentioning a scent I’m just loving as a perfume this Winter is the Joe Malone London Wild Fig & Cassis Cologne. I can’t find this for sale anywhere online as it looks like it’s sold out everywhere. I purchased this last Winter and find it’s such a hypnotizing delicious smell during the Winter months. I don’t know if this smell was discontinued or something, but I’m feeling quite panicked because my little bottle is almost gone!

So what do you think of my “no makeup” makeup look to use in a hurry? Do any of you do quick makeup looks like this or do you insist on wearing a full face of makeup to work everyday or skip it all together? Comment below!

January Beauty Favorites.

January is normally a very long cold and miserable month here in New England, but we’ve lucked out this year with fairly temperament weather that hasn’t dipped below 30 degrees Fahrenheit much! I’m sure this stroke of luck thanks to Global Warming (tear) will not last long. Today, I’m rounding up some of my monthly beauty favorites that I’ve been using a lot lately.

Kevin Murphy Antigravity Spray – My hair has thinned out a lot in the past year, so I’ve been spritzing this volumizing spray in my hair before blowdrying it or even if I’m going to let my hair air dry.  The directions online say to apply it to dry hair, but I’ve been using it as a spray to wet hair.  My hairdresser recommended this product to me and used it on my wet hair before blowdrying too, so I think it’s okay to go against the rules.  I definitely notice a difference when I use it and appreciate that it doesn’t make your hair feel like there’s extra product in it or weigh it down.

MAC Kinda Sexy Lipstick – This is such a nice everyday shade that can be worn from day to night. I love how it provides a subtle amount of color to my lips that I can easily take from the office to date night. I’ve been carrying this color around with me in my purse lately and loving it.

Topshop Glow Highlighter in Polished – I’ve been loving this shimmering white highlighter on my face this winter. The wear lasts all day and it’s a perfect color for my skin during extra pale season. I apply it along the strobing parts of my face and just think it provides a nice beautiful glow.

Rimmel Scandal Eyes in Nude –  This is a nice drugstore beauty find that I use to line my bottom waterline.  It subtly makes my eyes appear brighter, more awake, and helps reduce the appearance of eye redness.  I hear this is a good technique for older women to use to help the eyes look more fresh.

Smith’s Rosebud Salve in Strawberry – This is handy to use for on the go in the winter. I don’t like to carry the tub along with me in my purse, so the tube is great for travel. It helps keep your lips moisturized and soft for on the go.

Aesop Resurrection Aromatique Hand Balm – Okay this is definitely the Holy Grail of hand creams. Yes, it’s flipping expensive for hand cream but so worth it in my opinion. I reserve this for special use because of the cost, so I apply it every single night before bedtime. It’s important to massage it into your hands, nails, and cuticles thoroughly to really reap the rewards of this hand cream. Your hands will be soft when you wake and it really helps build strong fingernails which is something I use to struggle with until I started using this product. I’m in love and the smell is heavenly too. This is definitely a bedside beauty staple must.

What are some of your current beauty favorites?

Organic Skincare with Savor Beauty.

Savor Beauty is an organic skincare company that I discovered when they formerly went by the name of Om Aroma Company. I fell in love with their makeup remover that I blogged about here and slowly started trying out more of their products.

The Pearl Cleansing Cream has tiny exfoliating beads in it and is great for my sensitive skin. I use this at night time after cleansing my face with an oil or gel cleanser. It cleans the face without making the skin feel tight or stripped of its nutrients. After cleansing, I lightly towel dry my face and use a few spritz of their Lavender Toner on my face. This toner helps keep the pores clean and decongested.  It  feels calming and refreshing upon spraying.  Next up is whatever serum I feel like using. I strongly recommend purchasing their Mini Beauty Serum Trio so you can try all three and find which one you like most.  I tend to use the Raspberry Serum during the day for extra sun protection and rotate nights of using the Carrot and Pumpkin ones. I found these all blend quite well into my foundation. I simply mix a drop in with my foundation before applying to my face for a little extra glow. After serum, I apply the Truffle Face Cream to lock in moisture. I have extremely dry skin and this moisturizer has worked really well for me. I typically use it at night time. Since Savor Beauty  was having a sale when I did my little online haul, I bought their Sweet Baby Oil too. I like to slather this stuff on after I get out of the shower. I either apply it directly to my skin and follow with a layer of regular body moisturizer or mix in a few drops with my body moisturizer and then apply. It has such a nice soothing smell and I just love it. My bottle is about to run out, so I may need to repurchase soon.  Have any of you tried Savor Beauty yet? What are some of your favorite Organic Skincare brands?

Makeup Look #1.

Happy 2017! With the new year, I want to start a new series on my blog sharing different makeup looks and product combinations that I’m currently loving.  I’m excited to share my first one with you today. 🙂

I’ve been using Nature Bisse Sheer Eye underneath my eyes to moisturize and lightly conceal dark circles everyday. You can read more about my thoughts on this product here. To hide redness or old acnes scars, I apply Makeup Forever Concealer in Pink Porcelain 1 and then for any zits I use Murad Acne Concealer Stick in Light. I love this Murad concealer because it blends into makeup easily and helps kill the zit.  Next up is the Laura Mercier Silk Creme Foundation in Rose Ivory  which helps even out my skin tone and my facial redness.  I set this with the Laura Mercier Loose Setting Powder in Translucent and then apply the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Mood Exposure as a subtle and warming blush.

I fill in my brows with Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Pomade in Taupe and this #12 Brush.

For my eyes, I started with MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Painterly as a base, and then applied Too Faced Eyeshadow in Honey Pot all over my lid to the crease with a little swipe of Heaven below the brow. Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black is very easy to apply to my upper lash line and then MAC Pro Longwear Paint Pot in Groundwork is blended along my bottom Lash Line.  I scored this Dior Diorshow Mascara as a free sample from Sephora, and added a little glow with  Top Shop Glow Highlighter in Polished along the inner corner of my eyes and the strobing parts of the face.

I finished the look off with MAC Be Silly Lipstick which feels very velvety going on and is an instant mood brightener in the Winter!

I realize I’m super awkward in these photos. Just trying to showcase the makeup!

Winter Beauty Favorites.

I know it’s not officially Winter here in Boston, but my skin feels like it is. I wanted to round up some of my favorite Winter beauty products to share on the blog.

First Row Above:

Lush Mint Julips Lip Scrub reminds me of Andes Mint candy and is perfect for keeping your lips soft. I rub a little of this scrub on my lips before hopping in the shower to exfoliate any dry skin. It will help prevent dry flaky lips especially during the colder months here in New England.

Vitamin E Eye Balm. This is a year round beauty favorite of mine and I use this every single night before bedtime. It’s super hydrating and you can read a more detailed review about it here that I posted earlier this year. This is definitely a must for everyone.

Lush Salted Coconut Hand Scrub.  Rub this on your hands dry or wet and then rinse it off. If you want a more serious exfoliant, rub it on your dry hands. My hands are always super soft after I use this accompanied with hand cream.

Lush Salt and Peppermint Bark Body Scrub. I use this exfoliating bar in the shower and it smells like Heaven. I love using peppermint smelling exfoliants because they provide a nice subtle tingly sensation on sore muscles while leaving your skin silky smooth.

Second Row Above:

Lush The Olive Branch Shower Gel.  This stuff smells so good and can be used year round. I definitely find it easier to hop in the shower on a dark freezing cold day when I have something to look forward to like this gel. I wrote more about it here on my blog too.

Tata Harper Nourishing Oil Cleanser. You can read more about how I use this product here, but this is such a luxuriously rich Oil Cleanser that feels great on my dry sensitive skin. It makes makeup removal effortless and relieves parched skin. I have been using this product in rotation with the Oskia Renaissance Cleansing Gel. This is definitely a must try product for anyone and is like liquid gold for your face.

Tata Harper Moisturizing Mask. This is hands down my favorite face mask ever. I apply this to my face, neck, and decolletage after I follow my regular nighttime beauty routine. I leave it on overnight while I sleep and wakeup to plumper, more moisturized skin. You can read more about it here on my blog, but it’s definitely a skin savior and worth purchasing. I like to use this every single night during the cold weather.

Pictured Above:

Lush Sleepy Hand and Body Lotion smells nice and is great to apply as an all over body moisturizer at nighttime. Simply apply after getting out of a nice bath or shower and slip into some cozy pajamas afterwards. Snuggle up with a cup of tea and feel like a Princess.

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment with SPF 15 comes in so many colors and is a must for your lips during the Wintertime. It will keep your lips soft, comes in a wide variety of colors, and will protect your lips from the sun with SPF 15.

Rosebud Salve is a bedside beauty staple. Keep this on your nightstand and apply to your lips, any cuts, dry patches, scars, burns, zits, or cuticles before bed. A must for all!

Aesop Resurrection Hand Balm is another bedside beauty staple that I keep on my nightstand year round. I massage this into my hands and cuticles every night before bed and wakeup to nice soft hands in the morning. This is my most favorite hand cream that I’ve ever tried. Definitely try this out. Your hands will thank you.

Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum Review.

I was so excited when I heard about Vintner’s Daughter Active Botanical Serum. It sounded like the natural miracle serum that I had been searching for this year to even out my skin tone and bring some youth back into my face. When I finally bit the bullet to try it, I started using it morning and night before applying my moisturizer. This was too much for my dry sensitive skin and I was having more red flare ups on my face.   After scouring the internet, I realized I should cut back on my applications and ended up reducing my use to night time only. I follow their push and press technique  and then finish off with my nighttime moisturizer.  I think I’m the only person on the internet that is not in love with this product. Maybe if it cost 1/4th of what I paid for it, then I’d feel differently. However, an expensive product that is not a miracle worker is not worth repurchasing for me unless I have some serious money to burn!  It does leave me with a more youthful glow than what I would look like if I skipped serum, however nothing dramatically better than more affordable options on the market. I haven’t noticed a decrease in wrinkles or my skin tone evening out much.  I much prefer Om. Oroma Company’s serums that are a lot more affordable and hydrating. I will do a post about their serums separately from this.  I will continue to use up my bottle slowly, but don’t plan on repurchasing it.  For frame of reference, I’ve been using this since the beginning of October.  Do any of you have some natural skincare serums that you love and recommend?img_6502

**Update 12/21/2016. I started mixing a drop of this serum in with my foundation and/or tinted moisturizer before applying it to my face. This helps the product go on little smoother, but it’s not a drastic enough difference for me to continue repurchasing.

Natura Bisse The Cure Sheer Eye Review.

I first heard about Natura Bisse The Cure Sheer Eye through the beauty blogging world. I have been on the hunt for a daytime eye cream that would help hide dark circles, fight under eye puffiness, moisturize, and prevent the appearance of aging. Natura Bisse seemed to fit the bill for this. I have to say that I’ve really enjoyed using this product and it’s great for me because I usually don’t wear concealer or foundation during the work week. This helps moisturize, partially hide the circles under my eyes, and can be layered under makeup if needed. It works really well on my sensitive skin and does not cause any stinging, burning, or blepharitis upsets. Here is a no-makeup picture of me with it on (don’t mind my messy non-styled hair!). I like to provide the no-makeup pictures so you can see how much coverage the product can provide.

For comparison sake, this is what I looked like using a non-tinted under eye product. I think Natura Bisse helps hide my under eye circles better than the Andalou Naturals Gel I was using before. Once I run out of this product, I’m tempted to try some of Tata Harper’s eye products for comparison sake. Do any of you have a daytime under eye moisturizing product that you absolutely love and recommend for me? Comment below if you do!

How To Get A Healthy Scalp.

I’ve suffered from a dry scalp on and off throughout the years. I never really liked the typical drugstore dandruff products because they have an overwhelming chemical smell to them and dry out my hair.  Here are a few ways and products I like to use to get a healthier scalp.

Apple Cider Vinegar diluted with water. This is a nice affordable option. Mix it in a spray bottle with water and apply to your scalp directly over the bathtub. Be careful not to get it into your eyes or onto your face because it can burn. I’m not coordinated enough to avoid this, but maybe you can be. After I let this sit on my scalp for about 15 minutes or so, I’ll follow with my regular shampoo and condition routine. I usually just eyeball the apple cider vinegar to water ratio by filling up an 8 oz. spray bottle halfway or so with an even ratio of apple cider vinegar to water. I have a big head and lots of hair, so you may need less mixture than me. This results in a calmer scalp with less flakes and healthier, shinier hair!

A Heaping Tablespoon of Baking Soda mixed into my shampoo.  This one is very low maintenance and helps remove the buildup of dry shampoo. Mix about a tablespoon of baking soda with your shampoo between the palms of your hands and shampoo as normal working up a nice lather. I read somewhere that you shouldn’t dig your nails into your scalp and instead should use your fingertips to gently massage the products onto your head. Rinse and condition as your normally would.  This leaves the scalp feeling very clean and results in a softer blowout.

Moving onto the products you have to save your pretty pennies for.

Aesop Sage & Cedar Scalp Treatment can be applied directly to your scalp for up to 15 minutes before shampooing. The directions say to apply 5 drops directly to your scalp, but I tend to use more than that because I find that 5 drops is not enough product to cover my whole scalp. I will start by brushing my hair and then apply the drops to my scalp directly and gently massage it in for a minute or so. After 15 minutes, it’s time to shower and proceed with your regular shampoo and conditioning routine. If you love the smell of Sage like I do, then you will love this. It’s a very calming smell and even my husband commented on “that great smell” when I had the mask in my hair. It leaves my scalp super calm, clean, and happy plus I noticed healthier locks after use! I love this and think it will definitely be a staple in my beauty cabinet for years to come. It’s a lot more enjoyable than my makeshift Apple Cider Vinegar treatment and yields better results.

Aesop Rose Hair & Scalp Moisturising Masque  can be applied to your hair after shampooing. Leave it on for 15 minutes and then rinse it out. This is good for a healthier scalp and moisturized locks. I tend to save this as a special mask to do on weekends when I have some free time on my hands.  Believe it or not there doesn’t always seem to be time for this on the weekends, so it’s more of a production to use. However, it’s definitely great for the hair and scalp and worth trying!

Kevin Murphy Young Again Masque is to be used after you shampoo and before you condition.  My hairdresser recommended this product to me because I was complaining about my dry scalp, frizzy , and thinning hair. This product has great reviews online and I’m hoping it will help restore my hair to better condition with more frequent uses. You can’t really go wrong with Kevin Murphy hair products and I highly recommend trying some of his other great products that I blogged about here and here.

Christophe Robin Cleansing Mask With Lemon is a product I have been eyeing for-ev-er and was lucky enough to get it as a free sample from Sephora recently.  It can be used as a Shampoo and there’s a lot of different ways to use it, so I suggest finding what works best for your needs. I really LOVE this stuff and haven’t been able to stop playing with my hair after I did the Aesop Scalp Treatment followed by Christopher Robin Shampoo and Kevin Murphy Angel Hair Conditioner.

Now, I will admit I have always been lazy when it comes to my hair. Blowdrying it can take 20-30 minutes with a good T3 blowdryer or even longer if I really want to do an awesome blowout. I have to be at work by 8AM and just can’t bring myself to wake up at 5am to blowdry my hair in the morning.  That being said, I still believe it’s important to take good care of it, so that’s what I’ve been doing.  What are some of your favorite ways to maintain a healthy scalp? Let me know in the comments below if you have any questions about the products or routines.  Thanks!
